Server offline mode

Hi

As you all probably know by now, Minecraft is being DDoS'd. This means that we can't connect to multiplayer servers at all UNLESS that server is running in offline mode. Is it possible to se Maxloader in offline mode, at least until this whole shebang is over? I'm getting withdrawal symptoms here!

Of course, setting the server to offline has a number of problems... First and foremost being that Whitelists based on account names would not work. Therefore I propose that if the server can be set to offline mode for the time being, then the following should be looked into as well:

-All antigrief measures in Llamacraft activated. This means no flowing lava, no settings things on fire with lava, no fire, no tnt, etc.
-Possibly install the Hey0 CUBOID plugin and allow Mods and Admins to set area protection http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic ... 12&t=43540
-Allow all mods and admins to IPBAN for the time offline mode is in effect. This to ban anyone who discovers that they can log onto the server to grief without being whitelisted.

I know this is a bit of a handful to do... But as it stands it seems the attack will last a while, possibly a week or more. I wasnt to play nao, and I'm sure others would appreciate it too :P So... Please, Max? :)

PS. There might be some problems with this as I have not looked into it that thorougly, since I do not run a server myself... So If this is not practically possible, then forgive me for my ignorance :)

Without name checking, no one would be a mod or admin!

I think its best we just play in offline mode (single player) and rock in our chairs crying, calling mummy, and get therapy

At least till this terrible time is over

There exists no offline mode for a server, the server is a mere command line screen, ill post a screenshot down here of what it looks like.
And even if an offline mode existed, i wouldn't want to run it because it can't verify names then (like gazoid said).

ps: sad motherfucker who is ddossing the minecraft server, notch cant help this because the company that hosts his website need to take countermeasures.
You need to enable some options in the router to be able to counter these attacks.

The lost connection stuff is just serverlists checking if the server is online.

Dammit, knew I'd overlooked something. There is a offline mode, but like you guys say, the name verification would be iffy. It would be like the free weekend, so there would be mods and admins, but anyone could log in as those and impersonate them. I think. Ehn, too much hassle either way. I'm sad now.

Also, Jazz jackrabbit. Awesome, I played that as a kid :)
